1. Tell us your age , where are you from, and how long you have been making trax?
Dutchican Soul is consisting of Jasper ‘Drexmeister’ Drexhage and Niels Schröder, together we’re 69 so you figure out our ages! ;)

We are based in Amsterdam and we’ve been making tracks for quite some time, Jasper used to be part of Human Resource who we all know of the hit ‘Dominator’ back in 1991….. The first track of Jasper was released in 1990, he’s getting a bit old :)

Niels started producing about 12 years ago and went to the Conservatorium of Griffith University, Gold Coast, Australia where he studied Bachelor of Popular Music. Since 2009 Jasper and Niels have been producing together and now form Dutchican Soul. .

2. What labels and productions / remixes are you most proud of?
As for our own productions all projects have its own special memory, which we’re still very happy about, but for now we’d say Lisa Shaw’s ‘Like I Want To’ – Dutchican Soul Classic Vocal. We just can’t stop playing it and it was such a pleasure to be on this project!

As for labels; we always liked Soulfuric, Farplane, Salted, MAW… too many to name them all.

3. Describe your sound, your inspiration, and your vision for house music
Our sound varies a lot, because there’s also so much quality house we get inspired from and play. We play what we produce and produce what we play; soulful/jazzy and deep/funky vocal house. Inspiration we get from old funk/soul records to jazz, classical, pop, house music. Our vision for house music, although time marches on and styles change, as long as we stay true to what we (really) want, house will be there as long as we like!

4. Do you write, program, engineer yourself or do you prefer to collaborate with others?
We write, play instruments (keyboards, guitar, drum, sax, percussion) program, engineer, mix, master ourselves. It depends on who’s in the studio, we mostly try to be both in the studio at the same time, one or the other starts on a project/remix first (intro’s/beats), then we work out what to do (direction wise) together, Niels arranges and Jasper does the mixing/mastering.

Other than that we do collaborate with vocalists like Andrea Love, Inaya Day, Miss Bunty, Ifan to name only a few and sometimes it works out with other producers.

5. Any advice for the aspiring bedroom producers out there?
Try to learn everyday and stay true to whatever you like to do!

The space disco of Roberto De Carlo feat. Colin Corvez “You Are The One For Me (Miguel Migs Salted Dub)” is contrasted by the 90’s Hip-House sound of Dutchican Soul “Get On Down” (Unreleased Dub Edit) and then again by the jazzy tech house of Dirty Culture “No Matter How.” Swingin’ soulful grooves are shared by Jay-J with Charlene Moore “Love Alive (Dub)” and Fred Everything feat. Tortured Soul “Lying To You” (Fred Everything Dub) before Migs brings in a little R&B flavor with his own unreleased dub of “Sometime (feat Tim Fuller.)” You get the point by now, don’t cha? It’s a soul/R&B/House/disco party mix that works equally well on large sound systems and little earbuds.
